Wikia - creating communities

On Wednesday, September 10th, we released MediaWiki 1.13.1 out across all of Wikia, replacing MediaWiki 1.12. This is the latest stable release of the MediaWiki software which runs Wikia, and contains a number of enhancements and bug fixes. Here is a small list of the new features that you can expect to see:

• Double redirects are automatically detected and fixed whenever you move a page.

  For example, if "A" redirects to "B", then you move "B" to "C", the redirect on "A" will automatically be changed to "C".

• Subpages of a given article can automatically be moved when you move a page.

  For example, if you move "Page", "Page/Subpage1" and "Page/Subpage2" can automatically be moved as well.

• Special:ListGroupRights has been added and will give a list of user rights, what they mean, and (in some cases) what users have those rights.
• Special:FileDuplicateSearch has been added to help you find identical files and images on a wiki.
• Special:Specialpages has been redesigned so that the pages are categorized by function making it easier to find the page you are looking for.

We are currently performing some final testing and, if all goes well, we plan to release the upgrade on Wednesday, September 10th. We do not anticipate any major problems; however, as with any major upgrade, some issues may appear. If you have any questions or notice anything that is not working properly, please add a note to the forum page. We'll be watching that page closely and fixing issues as quickly as possible.
