Wikia’s Popular Sporting Community, ArmchairGM, Offers Football Fans a Special “Sneak Peak” into Super Bowl XLII
The Classic Game ‘Tecmo Super Bowl’ Gets an Update, as The NY Giants and New England Patriots Battle it Out in 8-bit Style
NEW YORK, January 31, 2008 – Wikia, Inc. (http://www.wikia.com/ ) the leading provider of community resources for building and organizing free information on every topic, today announced that its popular sports-focused community, ArmchairGM, is hosting the one-and-only “preview” of Super Bowl XXLI, as a simulation of the game-to-be using the popular 1990s Nintendo game, Tecmo Super Bowl. Today, on ArmchairGM, viewer’s can watch the big game, featuring 8-bit versions of Tom Brady, Osi Umenyiora, Eli Manning, and Asante Samuel, play-by-play game action, and half-time show, all without the hype and over-analysis of modern day sports.
More than 15 years after Tecmo Super Bowl was first introduced the original game classic, which features stars like Bo Jackson, Randall Cunningham, a.k.a. “QB Eagles” and Jerry Rice, still has a loyal following of players. However, ArmchairGM community member “Davis21wylie” thought it would be fun to watch an updated version of the game, so he worked with a group of Tecmo fans to model the game’s update as Super Bowl XXLII, using present-day team rosters for the NY Giants and New England Patriots. The result is 20 minutes of pure, unedited football, in all its 8-bit glory. You can watch the game today, only on ArmchairGM.com: http://www.armchairgm.com/Article:Tecmo-izing_The_Super_Bowl"
“For those of us who grew up with Tecmo Super Bowl, its fun to see the game really come back to life with an updated roster,” said Dan Lewis, manager of ArmchairGM. “Passionate people like “Davis21wylie” really keep the ArmchairGM community up and running by bringing new and exciting things, like Temco Super Bowl XXLII, to the table.”
